%X The geomorphological mapping is an important tool for analysis and synthesis of the relief, and represents the different shapes and sizes of the relief features. The objective of this study was the geomorphological mapping of the Taquari-Antas Basin, RS, Brazil, based on the orbital and cartographic data, and geoprocessing techniques. The choice of the study area is due to its history of floods and landslides, making it important to an update of the geomorphological map for territorial management and prevention of natural disasters. The geomorphological mapping was based on the principle of taxonomic hierarchy, identifying, in sequence, the morphostructural and morphosculptural domains, the geomorphological units, the modeled types and the relief forms, and the linear and specific features of the relief. We use a procedure based on visual interpretation and automated techniques for feature extraction and identification of relief units. In addition, we carried out two expeditions to refine the final map. Altogether, we identified six geomorphological units (GU), highlighting the GU Campos Gerais Plateau, which occupies 57.6% of the basin area. Overall, the geomorphological mapping presented coherent and consistent results, considering the previous geomorphological map (scale of 1:250,000), conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. In every taxonomic level, was observed a greater detailing of the features, indicating that the mapping is suitable for scales above to the existing cartography.
